Our Story

Shellbrook is named after the Shell Brook, which flows just north of the town. Settlers originally came to the land in 1882 and a trading centre was later opened. In 1905 a General Store and the Post Office were first introduced in the community. In 1909 Shellbrook was incorporated as a village and was designated into town status in 1948. Today, Shellbrook is a growing community of over 1,500 people with a new residential subdivision ready for construction. A new integrated health care facility Parkland Integrated Health Centre has recently been completed. It accommodates clinical care, acute care, 24-hour emergency service and long-term care. Thriving businesses retail, professional and service line our Main Street, while enthusiastic service and volunteer groups provide a wide range of activities and events throughout town all year. Additionally, Shellbrook is known for its all- season attractions, which include fishing swimming, boating, hiking and berry picking in the summer and snowmobile trails and cross-country skiing in the winter. Visit Shellbrook today, and plan to make it your home as we say come for a visit stay for a lifetime!
