Our Story
Kapuskasing is a diverse community that offers a perfect blend of opportunity and easy living. With a population of just over 8,100 residents and a trading area of 15,000, Kapuskasing offers many economic advantages. Strategically located in Northern Ontario, Kapuskasing is the ideal service hub for many large resource development projects. It is the largest community located directly on Highway 11 between Thunder Bay and Temiskaming Shores. Like most northern communities, Kapuskasing began with the development of the National Transcontinental Railway. The Canadian Government built this railroad to connect our country from east to west. The MacPherson station (known as Kapuskasing starting in 1917) was simply a water stop until the establishment of the MacPherson/Kapuskasing World War I Internment Camp.
