Our Story

Winkler was officially incorporated in 1906 but was established a couple of decades before that. Settled by mainly Russian Mennonite, German and Jewish immigrants, the village site was a bustling retail centre while the outlying areas had numerous small villages occupied by farmers and their families. Now, over 110 years later, Winkler boasts the largest population in the region and has become the service, manufacturing, shopping and retail centre of the Pembina Valley. Arts, culture, entertainment and recreation thrive here, thanks in part to a large immigrant population that originated from over 50 countries. Winkler is truly open for business.
